Maxi-Cosi Baby Car Seats

Choosing the right newborn car seat for your family is an important decision. After all, you want your baby to be safe and comfortable in your car from the moment you first take them home from the hospital! At Maxi-Cosi, we’re here to help you choose the right car seat and infant carrier for you, and each of them are designed with the needs of families in mind. Here’s more about what you need to know  when choosing a baby car seat:

The Importance of Rearward-Facing Travel

At Maxi-Cosi, we always recommend traveling with your baby in a rearward-facing position. That’s something you should do until they’re at least 15 months old. This is a view that’s been supported by experts and research, and you can read more about why we recommend it here.

Installation Options

There are two ways in which you can install your newborn car seat: with an ISOFIX base or with your car’s seatbelt. At Maxi-Cosi, we always recommend using an ISOFIX base to install your baby car seat. It minimises the risk of incorrect installation and provides a solid connection to your car. Don’t worry if you don’t have ISOFIX anchors in your car, installation with a belt is just as safe if you follow the instructions included in the manual.

Where Should You Position Your Car Seat?

The best place to fit your newborn car seat is the rear middle seat of your car. The next best place to install your newborn car seat/infant carrier is behind the passenger; this can be done if the middle seat doesn’t have ISOFIX anchors or a three-point seat belt for fixing the car seat in place. We don’t recommend it, but if you need to install the baby car seat in the front passenger seat, be sure to always deactivate the passenger airbag before doing so.

When to Move to a Next Stage Car Seat

The right time to move up to the next stage car seat is when your baby’s head comes up over the top of the newborn car seat. That might happen after approximately 9 months. But the most important metric to look at is not their age but their height and weight; it’s generally recommended that you move up from a baby car seat at 13kg and/or 75cm.
