Can the Maxi-Cosi Jade safety carrycot be used for sleeping at night?
The Maxi-Cosi Jade has been specially designed as a newborn bed. With a real bed frame, a comfy mattress and a soft and gentle fabric, it offers optimal comfort for a newborn. However, a travel bed like Jade should not be seen as a full replacement for a crib/bed, but can however occasionally be used as such. Make sure the harness system is hidden away under the mattress and the inlay is removed.
How to secure my baby inside the safety carrycot?
To perfectly restrain your baby, the safety carrycot is equipped with a 3-point harness. To adjust the harness, press the harness adjuster button on the car cot, and pull the crotch strap. Secure your baby, lock the harness into the buckle and tighten the adjuster strap. Make sure not more than 1 finger (approx. 1 cm) fits between your baby's body and the harness in order to ensure it is tightened enough. Which Maxi-Cosi pushchairs are compatible with the Jade safety carrycot?
Most Maxi-Cosi pushchair frames are compatible with the Jade safety carrycot. Consult the compatibility list on our website.
How safe is lateral-facing compared to rearward-facing travel?
Children under the age of 15 months must be transported facing rearwards or lateral (sideward) in seats that are approved according to UN Regulation No. 129. Until now, there are more rearward-facing car seats in the market than lateral-facing car seats/carrycots. Both are tested as being safer than car seats for children from 0-15 months that face forward. Test results show that the Jade offers very good head, neck and side impact protection, tested under the requirements of the highest car seat safety regulation R129.
How are the baby's vulnerable head and neck safe inside a lateral facing safety carrycot?
In the case of a frontal impact the baby slows down by a controlled rolling movement inside the product. This increases the braking distance of the baby, making it a ‘soft-landing’. Because of Jade’s design, the force in an impact is distributed over the baby’s side. This results in a soft landing for the baby’s body, head and neck.
In the event of a side-impact, the lateral-facing position of Jade in a car has the advantage of having the baby’s head in the center of the car. This means in the furthest position away from both doors. This means optimal protection for the vital body parts like head and neck which will be impacted much less in case of a crash from the side.
How do I install the Maxi-Cosi Jade correctly in the car?
As part of the car seat category, it's essential that a safety carrycot is correctly installed in the car to offer the best safety for your baby. The safety carrycot must always be placed laterally to the road on the rear bench. The head of the baby should be placed opposite to the door where it's installed. Jade can only be installed on one of its compatible ISOFIX bases by means of a unique ‘Slide & Go' installation. This unique installation on the ISOFIX base, makes it easy to install the car cot correctly and saflye as it does not rely on guiding seat belts. The interactive feedback from the ISOFIX system makes it even easier. You will see and/or hear the confirmation that the safety carrycot is correctly installed in the car.
Can the Maxi-Cosi Jade be installed together with 1 or more other (non safety carrycot) car seats on the same rear bench of my car?
The Maxi-Cosi Jade is a R129 approved 'Specific vehicle ISOFIX' child restraint system. And as Jade is a lateral facing child restraint system, this means that not all cars will allow Jade to fit next to two other car seats on the same rear bench. In most cases Jade will only allow one extra car seat (baby car seat or toddler car seat) to fit. On our website you can find a Car Fitting List where you can see if Jade fits your car.
I can’t see my baby inside the Maxi-Cosi Jade from the front seat. How do I know if my baby is still okay?
When Jade is correctly installed on the base the carrying handle may be put down. This way parents can still get a quick glimpse of their baby. Alternatively we have a Maxi-Cosi Backseat Car Mirror available as an accessory which can be attached to the rear seat headrest in a position that enables the driver to keep an eye on the baby. The mirror should be installed on the headrest of the seat where Jade is installed. In that case the carrying handle (with hood) should be put down and the boot cover should be opened.
Do I need to use the harness system when using the safety carrycot on a pushchair?
When driving in the car it is mandatory to restrain your baby. It is not mandatory to restrain your baby when you are just going for a walk. However, if you are going for a walk somewhere you need to go to by car it could be more convenient to keep you child restrained. This way the risk of waking up your baby while restraining it before a ride in the car is much lower.
Up to what height/age can I use the Maxi-Cosi Jade safety carrycot?
Jade is specially designed for babies from 40 up to 70 cm. This means from birth up to approx. 6 months of age and max. 9 kg.
Can I remove the Maxi-Cosi Jade from my pushchair by using the memory button function?
At Maxi-Cosi our pushchairs are equipped with a highly convenient memory function to release a Maxi-Cosi carrycot or car seat from the frame. Jade can also be released in this same way.
Can I wash the Maxi-Cosi Jade covers and mattress?
Yes, all covers and the matress can be machine washed. Make sure you consult the washing labels on the cover or mattress and careully read the user manual.
Is it possible to install the Maxi-Cosi Jade in the car without a base?
No, it is not possible to install Jade without a compatible Maxi-Cosi base.
How do I install the Maxi-Cosi Jade correctly on my pushchair?
Jade is equipped with the Maxi-Cosi modulo clip which enables a seamless fit to almost all compatible Maxi-Cosi pushchair frame.
Is it mandatory to leave the Maxi-Cosi Jade's carrying handle up while driving in the car?
No, it is not mandatory to leave the carrying handle up. There is no safety risk when leaving it up.
Is the 3-point harness adjustable in height?
The 3-point harness system is not adjustable in height. This way the baby's head is always in the correct and safest position when installed in the car.
Can I install the Maxi-Cosi Jade from both sides on its base?
Yes, the dedicated ISOFIX bases that are compatible with Jade allow installation from both sides. This means when the base is installed on the right rear bench (forward driving position), Jade can be installed from the right. When the base is installed on the left hand side, Jade can be installed from the left.
Can I install the Maxi-Cosi Jade on the base with the head end pointing towards the car door?
No, that is not possible as you will not be able to close the car door. On top of that it is also extremely unsafe as the baby's vulnerable head and neck are located too close to the door.
Does the Maxi-Cosi Jade offer sufficient room for my baby to move?
Jade offers the safety of a car seat and the comfort of a carrycot. This means that Jade allows your baby to move, which is crucial for your baby's motor development, while still being kept safe.
How long can I travel with my baby in the Maxi-Cosi Jade?
Since the Jade offers a full lie-flat (180 degree horizontal) lying position, babies can remain sleeping for as long as they need.

Does the Maxi-Cosi Jade fit inside all cars with ISOFIX?
The Maxi-Cosi Jade is an R129 Specific vehicle ISOFIX compliant product as it can only be installed lateral facing to the road. Therefore it is not possible for Jade to fit on all ISOFIX seating positions.

What are the compatible Maxi-Cosi ISOFIX bases for the Maxi-Cosi Jade?
The 3wayFix and BabyFix ISOFIX bases are the only compatible bases for installing Jade in the car.
How do I know the Maxi-Cosi Jade is correctly installed on the base in my car?
When Jade is installed correctly in the car, the compatible ISOFIX base gives you visual and/or audible feedback. When the base indicators have all turned green, Jade is correctly installed and it's safe to drive. If not all indicators have turned green, it is not safe to drive. Always make sure Jade is correctly installed. Consult the user manual of Jade and/or the base in case of any doubts.
Can I install the Maxi-Cosi Jade on the front passenger seat?
No, as Jade must be installed lateral facing to the road, a front passenger seat will not provide sufficient space for Jade to be correctly installed.
Up to what height can I use the protective newborn inlay?
For babies up to 60 cm, the protective newborn inlay must be used. The inlay should then be removed so Jade can be used safely again.
Is it safe to attach play accessories to the carrycot?
As toys and other play accessories are not homologated together with Jade, Maxi-Cosi recommends not to use any toys inside or attached to Jade as they could hurt the baby in an impact.
Can I use the Maxi-Cosi Jade (with the ‘Slide & Go installation’) in a two/three-door car/coupé?

Is it fine to leave the bootcover of Maxi-Cosi Jade opened while driving in the car?
Yes, you may use Jade in the car with the bootcover opened.
How does the Maxi-Cosi Jade perform regarding temperature regulation for the baby?
Air ventilation holes have been made in the bed frame under the mattress, making sure that temperatures are better under control. Furthermore, during travels the hood may be put down and the boot cover may be taken off to provide additional air ventilation to the baby while traveling by car. However, like for any other product it is always important to keep an eye on the temperature of the baby.
How is the safety of the baby guaranteed in the Maxi-Cosi Jade?
The Jade complies with the highest safety standards (R129). This takes into account the protection of the head and neck of babies and toddlers and a premature change to a forward-facing system is restricted. In addition, the passive safety was improved in R129 (UN Regulation No. 129). A dynamic test for side impact is now required for the approval of child restraint systems.
